Money is not everything

That’s what Malaysian medical students in Britain have been told by Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed to 100 Malaysian students at a dialogue organised by the Malaysian Students Department in London 2 May 06.

But Datuk, everything is money! How can I ensure that I dont drive a lousy Proton or a lousy overpriced house when I am back in Malaysia?

He said the students must have a strong sense of nationalism and patriotism, and should return home to serve the country after completing their studies.

I can almost hear the sentence: “Bah! Humbug!”

“Despite the lower financial reward in the government service, the students should be proud to serve the Government, just like many other doctors who continued to be in the civil service although they could have opted for private practice. ”

What, with all the problems in the country, you would need to be an ultra nationalist to be proud of your low salary.
