Probably the first Malaysian man running an online business selling women’s lingerie

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Jerad Solomon, 33 was a finance manager / accountant when he decided to take the plunge and do what most men in Malaysia would probably never even dream about: sell women’s intimate wear. Online.

The hardest part was probably breaking the news to his wife, Hemala, who was understandably dumbfounded. He had never even bought any lingerie for his wife, and he’s thinking of quitting a stable job to sell lingerie??? Fortunately, after a while she gave him the green light.

But the big question remains: there are millions of others things to sell – why lingerie? He gave several reasons, but to me the most compelling one is this: Malaysians (and Asians in general) like to buy their intimate wear privately rather than in shops. Monday, February 12th, 2007

Location will be at the Waterfront, near the Marine Police HQ and will be completed in 2009.

I heard the price is something like RM2,500 per square feet. If so, a typical home living room sized area will cost a whopping RM1 million!

The world’s biggest salaries

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

The salaries of US CEOs are spiraling out of control that even President Bush acknowledged “the anger of Americans at stories about the enormous salaries and other perks for CEOs.” And the gap between top officers’ and rank-and-file employees’ pay continues to widen.

He said the government should not decide the quantum, but it should be based on “their success at improving their companies and building value for their shareholders.” Well, to it’s the same story with sportspeople. But salaries for corporations’ employees can be better justified than those of sportsmen/women. Because how can you justify the earnings of some people who in 1 week will earn more than most people will do in their entire lifetime just by playing football?

Back to huge salaries and other perks for CEOs: (more…)

Being good at sports in Malaysia does pay

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Top Malaysian professional sportspeople are earning a decent living, perhaps not as much as those in the US and Europe, but nationally still in the very top earning bracket. Of course, you have to be good AND successful.

In addition, more sports are introducing prize money on their international circuits. Worthy mentions: (more…)
