It’s Chinese New Year and you are in Johor Bahru: look out for Lee Mon Seng

Lee Mon Seng, 40+ years old, is Malaysia’s very own “God of Fortune” or “Earthly Emperor”. For the man on the street at least. He distributes cash when Chinese New Year draws near to anyone within sight, regardless of race, gender and age. Minimum RM10 (for children). If you’re lucky, you’ll get RM500. Average amount: RM100.

You’d need to be in and around Johor Bahru though.

You’d recognise him (apart from the pic above) by:

  • him wearing red clothing
  • him wearing rings bearing images of various gods on all fingers
  • smokes a pipe
  • holds a walking stick
  • drives a Mercedes Benz

He claims to have given >RM2 million “over the past few years.”

It is not clear how he got the funds, for he does not entertain any questions on that topic. However, he said that the money was from “clean” sources.
