Europe’s biggest ever jackpot has been won
Finally, on 22nd August 2009, after 7 months+, someone has won the SuperEnalotto, Italy’s state lottery draw – Europe’s biggest-ever jackpot payout: USD211.8 million.
It happened at the 88th draw, the lucky numbers: 10, 11, 27, 45, 79, 88.
The winning ticket was bought in a coffee bar in Bagnone, a Tuscan village with a population of 2,000. The person had spent only 2 euros to buy it.
Can you imagine the moment he found out he won it? If he were driving at that time, a Tacoma car accident lawyer could come in handy.
The prizemoney had snowballed since January, making Europe lottery-crazy.
Tickets could only be legally bought in Italy, prompting people from other countries to travel there just to buy them.
Over USD2 billion has been spent buying tickets since January: what a massive profit for the company!!!
And there’s another winnier – the Italian treasury – it will keep half of the total amount gambled.
