China now the world’s biggest exporter
China, still one of the world’s poorest countries, yet the world’s biggest steel maker, leapfrogged Germany in 2009 to become the top exporter in the world.
Its export’s total value was USD1.2 trillion, edging Germany’s USD1.17 trillion.
This is another signal of its meteoritic rise.
Still, it has to be noted that China has 1.3 billion people, compared to Germany’s mere 80 million.
And that China focuses on low tech goods, in contrast with Germany’s high tech products.
Having said that, this shows that the Chinese, with their agility and low cost have managed to keep selling overseas even with the drop in worldwide demand.
China beat Germany into 4th place in 2007 in the biggest economy league. It could well be the world’s no.2 economy this year, edging out Japan.
Now, I wonder whether that means car prices worldwide are set to drop?
