2010: combined wealth of Malaysia’s 40 richest persons is > RM150 billion

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

It was reported in May 2010 that according to the June 2010 issue of Forbes Asia, the total wealth of Malaysia’s 40 richest persons are now worth 42 % higher than last year, where it was “merely” USD36 billion.

Reason: Malaysia’s economic expansion: 32% increase in KLCI and the ringgit’s 11% gain against the greenback.

No changes to the chart-topper, it’s still Tan Sri Robert Kuok, 86 after 4 years. He’s worth USD12 billion, up USD3 billion.

As an eightysomething billionaire, I guess he can have all the anti-wrinkle cream he likes.

In distant second is Tan Sri Ananda Krishnan, at almost USD4 billion less, even though his Maxis Communications raised USD3.4 billion: Malaysia’s biggest ever IPO.

All the others are worth less than USD5 billion.

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) pilots can earn almost RM28,000 a month

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

It was reported by The Star on 27th May 2010 that there’s a court case involving 3 senior pilots with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) who handled the Boeing 747s – meaning they must be the best paid of all pilots in the airline.

In the court case, their salaries as of March 2006 were revealed. They all joined MAS between 1975 & 1979, meaning they’d served MAS for more than 20 years each, and they all held the post of Pilot Captain B747-400:

(i) Azlan Zainal Abidin, 54
(ii) Ahmad Kamil Shahperi Shahibi, 50
(iii) Samsudin Zainol Abidin, 56.

Each had a last drawn salary of more than RM27,000.

They were all dismissed by their employer in 2006 for “breach of contract” – well probably the only way they could match their previous salaries is by getting jobs in south jersey
