The world’s first woman millionaire who built her wealth on her own was African-American : Madam C.J. Walker (1867 – 1919). She made it big in the development and selling of beauty and hair products targeted to black women, under her company: Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company.
Born to parents who had been slaves, she married at 14, widowed at 20. She then worked as a laundress, then a sales agent at the age of 38 for another black lady entrepreneur who made hair care products. Thence she made her own products.
She remarried in 1906 but divorced 4 years later.
By the year 1917 she was the top black lady in business in the US.
She died at the age of 51.
She was also known as a philanthropist.
What an inspiring person – now follow her example – don’t spend too much time on those ps3 games!

According to Hot Jobs @ yahoo.com, the top 5 interview myths are:
ONE
Be prepared with a list of questions to ask at the close of the interview.
TWO
Do not show weakness in an interview: this one is my favourite myth. How to tackle it, reveal ONE genuine flaw (eg, I’m addicted to wrinkle lotions), explain that you are striving to get over it, detail how you’re going to do it, then stop and move on.
THREE
Be sure to point out all of your strengths and skills to the employer.
FOUR
Let the employer know your salary expectations.
FIVE
The employer determines whether or not you get the job.

The list should include the following, who would face quite a task in getting reasonable life insurance quotes:
Mike Tyson, former undisputed world boxing champion. From USD30 million a fight and a fortune more than USD300 million. By 2003, he had declared bankruptcy, owing about USD10 million to the IRS and others.
Thomas Jefferson, US president with probably the worst debt case ever.
Kim Basinger, Hollywood star to ill-advised investment on a town.
Mark Twain, writer who had a gambling problem.
MC Hammer, musician
Dennis Kozlowski, former CEO of Tyco International.

According to askcaptainlim.com, pilots with rank of captain at Singapore Airlines earn a basic monthly salary of at least RM25,000 for a Boeing 747-400 and a maximum of more than RM32,000 for an Airbus A380.
The lowest ranking pilot is Second Officer, earning a minimum of around RM4,500 per month and it can go up to more than RM8,000 per month.
A First Officer earns a a minimum of around RM9,800 per month, and it can go up to a maximum of more than RM23,000 per month.
These figures are definitely in the upper ranges of income among South East Asians; so kids, this is one to aim for, sure beats doing cable ties doesn’t it?

It was reported in Forbes in October that Tiger Woods is the first ever athlete to earn USD1 billion (that’s more than RM3 billion!).
He’s been the highest-paid American athlete in years: not even basketball legend Michael “Air” Jordan or seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher could get close.
Yes, he’s the first 10-figure sports earner.
Apart from championship purses, the money also rolls in through other channels: appearance fees, endorsements, bonuses, even perhaps doing promotional tote bags, and last but not least, golf course design.
His off the course so far in 2009 is more than USD100 million, much much more than mere tournament prizemoney.
And he’s only 33, he’s good for at least another 15 years on the greens and probably double that at designing courses.
Several more billion dollars is in the works.

Duncan Greenberg wrote on 9th October 2009 that analysing self-made members of the Forbes 400 gave results such as these:
- Have parents who are good at maths. Among the most common occupations of parents of current US billionaires were that of engineer, accountant and small-business owner.
- September is the most popular birth month among American billionaires.
- A degree is not mandatory to be successful. Nearly 15% of self-made American billionaires never completed university, most of them in the tech sector, an illustrous list that includes Bill Gates (Microsoft), Steve Jobs (Apple), Michael Dell (Dell), Larry Ellison (Oracle) and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook).
- it seems that quite a few billionaires who were Yale graduates were also members of Skull and Bones, the secret society whose list of members includes investor Edward Lampert, Blackstone co-founder Stephen Schwarzman and FedEx founder Frederick Smith.
- have a stint at investment bank Goldman Sachs: 6 of the financial tycoons spent some time there. Its crown jewel, the “risk arbitrage” unit launched the careers of billionaires and former billionaires Edward Lampert, Daniel Och, Tom Steyer and Richard Perry.
- have a penchant for Naot shoes. Just kidding

According to an article I saw at Yahoo a few days ago, start-ups which most likely will fail, at least in America are as follows:
1. Running a restaurant: never mind that you’re a good cook. 60% of restaurants close in its first 3 years of operation. Catering also fall in this category.
Why: low profit margin, need strong managers, which most people aren’t.
2. Direct selling: new team members usually join in after learning what the highest earners in the company earns. After some time, saturation creeps in.
3. Online retail: it is more difficult now to for small players to compete with established retailers as compared to the early days of the web. Peopleare more likely to buy stainless steel tiles off a well-known company than yours.
4. High-End Retail: less people nowadays are spending money on luxuries. The good days might come back, but not now.
5. Independent Consulting: not as easy to do as it seems: in reality, many struggle with time management, spending more time looking for work than actually doing it.
6. Being a franchise owner: there are risks uniquely associated with it, for example overly restrictive contracts and high royalties that makes it hard to profit. A 1995 study by Wayne State University found that more non-franchise businesses were still operating after 4 years than franchise ones.
7. Traffic-driven websites: as the internet ages, it’s only to get harder to earn income via online advertising. You could need millions of dollars to get any presence and you’d need a huge amount of traffic before you’re somewhere.
So what business should one start? Experts argue that you should “create firms in which they have professional experience so they have a competitive advantage in the market.”

The top 15 highest-earning college degrees in the USA all have one thing in common – mathematics; and 12 of those are engineering degrees.
At the very top is petroleum engineering, which, at an average starting offer of USD83,121 (that’s more than RM24,000 per month!).
Why? Because oil is getting more difficult to find. Petroleum engineers try to locate oil and gas reservoirs, or finding ways to bring them to the surface.
Far behind at second place is the chemical engineer, more than USD20,000 per year adrift at a mere USD64,902 (RM19,000 per month).
Still, compared to developing nations’ starting salaries, these guys should have no problems with their baby showers.

After 6 years at Manchester United where he won everything, Cristiano Ronaldo, 24 moved on to Real Madrid with a world record transfer fee – the most expensive footballer of all time.
The package:
(i) Ronaldo will earn GBP9.5 million during his first year of service, that’s GBP183,000 a week (or about RM1 milion!),
(ii) 25% pay rise in each of the following 5 years of his contract. That means, if he stayed till the end, he would be earning a staggering GBP556,000 a week (RM3.2 million!) in the final year.
(iii) As if that’s not enough, his salary will be boosted by a share of his projected image rights: he could earn DOUBLE that in total.
Any takers for healthcare jobs specially tailored for C-Ron?
