Cheapest kuih in Malaysia: 10 sen each
Written by pinolobu on September 5, 2010 – 2:13 am -The Star reported on 14th August 2010 that Fauziah “Kak Gee Kuih 10 sen” Ismail, 35 of Kulim, Kedah sells probably Malaysia’s cheapest kuih – at 10 sen apiece. Even more amazingly, she’s still running profits, despite the recent hikes in the cost of sugar and petrol.
Perhaps most amazingly, she’s been selling at that price since 1993!
She normally sells 2,000 pieces, but that amount shoots up to 4,500 pieces daily during the fasting month and earns between RM60 and RM80.
The menu runs the gamut: doughnuts, curry puffs, ketayap, samosa, masalodeh, baby burger, onde-onde, lepat liat, tepung bungkus, lopes pulut, cocoa cake, banana cake, buah melaka, bengkang lenga, baby keria and abuk-abuk.
Her motivation, in her own words:
When a little child or an elderly person comes to my stall with only 10 or 20-sen in their pockets, I am glad he or she can have something to eat.
What do you think? I think that feat easily qualifies her to be featured in Cyber Monday deals!
